Situated on the banks of the Crocodile River, just opposite the Southern Kruger, Kambaku River Lodge is a luxury retreat. Idyllic in its location, with a fabulous open design, that allows guests to view the wildlife that frequents the river for a drink of water, those who stay at Kambaku are treated to ultimate privacy in a cosy setting.
When staying with us, there are plenty of exciting things to do, both within the park and in the surrounding area. From lazy days spent playing golf at nearby Leopard Creek, to morning or afternoon game drives in the Kruger National Park, guests will never run out of ways to stay busy and entertained.
If you should prefer to go on self-drive Kruger safari, you will find that there are plenty of things to do while you are in the Southern Kruger.
- River or Bush Walks
A safari drive is the most common way to see the Kruger, but one of the most exciting ways to experience the park is to go on a river or bush walk. Both options will get you up close to the wildlife, while you are in the company of an armed guide. When walking, guests will learn about spoors and animal habitats as well as the characteristics of each animal you spot. This is certainly the most authentic way to experience the park.
- Visit the hippo pool
In the Southern Kruger, there is a quaint pool where hippos live. Hundreds of these animals frequent this spot in the Crocodile River and if you keep an eye out you might even spot one of the more elusive crocodiles, with their beady eyes peering out just above the water. Visitors are able to get out of their vehicles at the pool, but they do so at their own risk.
- See the Red Rocks
Close to the Shingwedzi River lies a layer of stunning red rocks. They have been exposed by the river and stand out in contrast to the green trees and surrounding grass. It can be a bit difficult to get to this part of the park in an ordinary vehicle, but if you ask for directions and have the right type of car, viewing the rocks should be no problem.

The Kruger National Park is a place of immense history and the Albasini Ruins are one place to see a part of this history. Here visitors will see the remains of a 19th century trading post where the Ba-Phalaborwa people traded with the Portuguese Colonists. Today, there are a few crumbling walls that can be seen.
- The Kruger Tablets
This is one of the best places to go if you want to see lions. The Kruger Tablets consist of a number of flat rocks which have been named after the founder of the park, Paul Kruger. Lions love to lounge on the rocks here and you are sure to leave with loads of photographs.
