Activities

at Kambaku River Lodge

You don’t have to go into the Kruger National Park to see wildlife or do some bird watching. Kambaku’s location on the banks of the Crocodile River makes us the perfect place to do both, all from the comfort of your private patio or our riverside deck.

All throughout the day animals including lions, elephants, rhino, leopard, hippo and herds of buffalo frequent the river to quench their thirst. Spotlights light up the river while you enjoy dinner on your patio. Each room has a bird feeder close by, attracting all kinds of colourful African birds. You can even do some wildlife viewing while taking a refreshing dip in the pool.

Matsamo Cultural Village

Matsamo Cultural Village offers age-old folk songs, rhythmic dance performances, including the famous Rain Dance, and music with authentic African instruments, as well as traditional Swazi cuisine. Visitors can also wander on a tour through the village with its many huts and spaces, interacting with the villagers as they go about their daily activities, cultivating their crops, preparing traditional food and fashioning beautiful craft works. At the heart of the center (cultural village), are two Swazi villages, authentic and alive with cultural activities. A traditional African village is organised around family relationships and creates household activity areas and places for special occasions.

The Geotrail

Barberton

The spectacular 38km mountain pass between Barberton and the Josefsdal border post with Swaziland has been developed as the Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail. It is a self-drive trail through the Barberton Makhonjwa Mountains World Heritage Site, displaying information about the area’s remarkable geology and it’s links to the plant diversity and history. The twelve landscaped lay-bys with interpretative panels and picnic stops have been combined with rock specimens, geological features, and view points to tell the story of how the early Earth evolved some 3.6 billion years ago. The tarred road cuts through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The trail can take anything from two hours to a day, depending on the size of your picnic basket and level of interest.
